What happens during LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY?

Making connections, making sense and seeing possibilities happens best when in a group, when linked to emotions. While you are involved in Lego Serious Play, you see things differently: ideas come to life with more detail, and you generate a wider and more imaginative range of possibilities than you would ordinarily.

People at play are more present, more engaged, more passionate and better performers. Lego Serious Play socially bonds together and creates a lasting atmosphere of imagination and trust. Both imagination and trust are key when people come together to create an innovative environment.

Reveal more insights, improve decision making, find hidden opportunities, surface hidden issues, clarify values, roles and identities and discusses the un-discussable

Why Play?

Play is the best way people have to imagine, interact and learn, especially when they face complex and uncertain challenges. Play frees us to take risks, to imagine the unimaginable and to take on different roles. Through play we can test and hone our skills, develop new insights and innovative ways of working, and prepare ourselves for the unknown, to work with what emerges. We call this kind of play – adult play, play with a purpose. Play helps us externalise the thinking that goes on in our brains.

In order to help one of our clients address a fairly fundamental issue with their business model, BigBlueSuff facilitated a workshop for us using LSP. People from a number of our client's partner organisations were invited. The attendees each had their own expectations and agenda, represented different levels of seniority, and in many cases had not met the other participants before. Within a very short time, they were all participating openly, giving freely of their ideas and opinions, and working together constructively in pursuit of common goals. I'm convinced we covered more in that day than would have been possible in a week of workshops facilitated by more traditional means, and by less able facilitators.
